Sailing and Paddleboarding

Guidance for those Sailing and Paddleboarding

Unlike other sailing clubs, you can sail or paddleboard at Swarkestone Sailing Club any time, but for safety reasons, we insist on there being a person ashore to alert the rescue services in case of emergency.

Please note that there won’t always be rescue cover available so be mindful of your sailing or paddleboarding capability and the weather conditions.

The lake is used by members of the fishing club and a bright orange flag should be flying at the position where they are fishing. Please avoid sailing or paddleboarding too close to those fishing positions. If you inadvertently pick up a fishing line, raise your centre board and rudder to release the line.

If you are sailing or paddleboarding whilst racing is being held, avoid using any area that may obstruct those racing.

Full wetsuit or drysuit must be worn between 1st November and 31st March.

Buoyancy aids must be worn whilst sailing and paddleboarding.

Additional Guidance Specific to Paddleboarder

Swarkestone Sailing Club is a great place to paddleboard with several islands to be explored and an abundance of water birds.

We welcome all paddleboarders and being a club member entitles you to take advantage of all the club’s social events and our reasonably priced bar.

It is recommended to use the beach area by the old clubhouse to launch. Launching off the pontoons is at your own risk.

We have access to all areas on the water but we only have access to the land on our waterfront. Please do not land anywhere other than our waterfront areas.

Avoid leaving your paddleboard in areas where boats or trolleys are parked.

We hope you can enjoy paddleboarding at Swarkestone Sailing Club and enjoy all that the club has to offer.
